Where the two lists disagree
25 of Statistik Liechtenstein — Vornamenstatistik (newborn given names)'s top 25 given names sit five or more places away in our record corpus. Neither ranking is wrong; they count different people.
The register counts one population in one year — everyone it enumerates, once. Our corpus counts records: historical registers going back decades, the diaspora, business and place records, and several generations of births. A name that was common two generations ago outranks a name common today; a name whose spelling scatters across sources (diacritics dropped, transliterated differently) loses ground, because only its dominant spelling is ranked.
Characteristic of Liechtenstein
Not the most common names — the most distinctive ones. A name appears here when Liechtenstein holds a larger share of its bearers than the world does, weighted by how much of the country's whole name distribution it accounts for.

Countries whose names look alike
Measured as the overlap between each country's top 300 given-name forms, weighted by how common each is — the fuzzy-set approach of Lauc (2024), on a truncated inventory.

Amt für Statistik / Statistik Liechtenstein. Counts: not recorded. surname. 762 forms. 2020. Licence: CC BY 4.0.
What we know about this register
Surname statistics, published every 10 years (publication-ID 720.2020.01.1, decennial; latest edition 2020). Parquet built from Tab_4 — the full alphabetical surname list for Liechtenstein nationals (surnames with 5 or more entries) with the national total count per surname. Per-municipality columns with suppressed (*) small cells were dropped; national-total * cells skipped. 764 rows. Top surnames match the ranked Tab_1 list (Beck 761, Büchel 758, Marxer 681). Same XLSX-not-PDF caveat and Cloudflare/Firecrawl-discovery caveat as li-statistik-vornamen.

Amt für Statistik / Statistik Liechtenstein. Counts: newborns. given. 134 forms. 2020. Licence: CC BY 4.0.
What we know about this register
Given-name statistics for newborns, published annually since 1970 (gap 1987-1993). Latest published edition is 2020 (XLSX, publication-ID 725.2020.01.1). The portal /de/ landing pages are Cloudflare-gated, but the legacy /statistikportal/publications/ XLSX path is fetchable via plain curl with a browser UA. Newer years (2021-2024) return HTTP 403 (not yet published). Source NOT a PDF as originally assumed — data is Excel. Parquet built from Tab_3 (female) + Tab_4 (male): the full alphabetical 2020 newborn lists with exact counts (Anzahl) and sex. Phonetically equal name variants (e.g. Sofia/Sophia) are grouped by the publisher and kept as the published grouped label. 266 rows (134 M, 132 F). Tab_1/Tab_2 additionally carry ranked 2018-2020 data with grouped variants (not ingested to avoid double-counting). Discovered the real XLSX slug via Firecrawl (the /de/ publication archive is JS-rendered).

About this data
Official figures are reproduced from the register named beside them, at the year named beside them, and are never combined across registers. The "across all records" ranking counts records in our own corpus — historical registers, the diaspora, business and place records — and is not a population count. Bearer estimates are omitted where a name accounts for more than a quarter of a country's records, because the estimate is not defensible there. Names listed by reference works and licensed name dictionaries are cited as attesting a name; their figures are not published.
