Of these the most common was the second, ‘noble strength’, popular through the reputation of St. Etheldreda, Queen of Northumbria and foundress of the convent at Ely. This became Audrey and is found in the 14th century in Essex and Suffolk as Etheldreda (1304 AD i (Ess), 1381 SRSf).
